This is my rhubarb plant. With some strange flowering thing growing out of the center. I have seen and eaten rhubarb most of my life, I have never ever seen it flower... So is there any Botanists out there to help me with this?

After deaper investigation into google, I have found that Rhubarb does flower. Huh... I thought this was a young plant, but apparently it has done something called Bolting... Interesting... Well I guess I will just enjoy whatever I am given.
Mine is doing the same thing and it is already 5 feet high! Crazy!
Brynn-This has nothing to do with your post, but email me at andrea.griggs@gmail.com so I have your email address and I'll send you an invitation to my blog. Thanks.

That is strange! I have never seen that either :) good luck with it! :)
Pull it off! It is going to seed, then the plant won't send up any more stalks. Sometimes they are hard to stay on top of. They seem to shoot up overnight. You should still be able to get rhubarb off this year. Just twist off the stalk - just like you would the regular stalks that you eat. If this is the first year for your rhubarb - twist off all of the stalks. The plant will shoot up more that will be bigger and tastier. Good luck! YUM!
