Are you sitting down for this.......

Alex had Pro-Op today and what a crazy day we had. We had a sedated echo, 4 try's and one successful IV, weight checks (16 lbs 4 OZs), blood drawn, waiting and then......We found out how serious Alex's surgery will be tomorrow. We are not talking about your run-of-the-mill Glenn. We are talking new info about how things are looking.... Alex will need the following repairs tomorrow... Tricuspid valve repair, Aortic arch repair, two holes repaired, the sano conduit removed, and on top of all that the Bidirectional Glenn....We plan on having him in surgery for six hours. We don't even have a guess time how long it will take to recover. The good thing is that he is bigger at this point and seems to be checking out in other areas. They are still concerned that his heart is not functioning all that stellar, we hope having these surgeries takes some of the work load off the right side.... So we are worried sick and just hanging in there right now.

Jeff and Brynn,

Your family and little Al will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow. We know the Lord is mindful of our lives and is in control. We are praying for the surgeons, nurses and staff so that tomorrow they will be ready for yet another miracle at PCMC. The Lord has already blessed your family so much and there is so many more blessings waiting to be had. We love you guys!

We care so much for your family. I’m sure hearing this news is overwhelming for you, but the thoughts I had after reading your post is that it a blessing that the surgeons are aware of these things and able to put together a game plan before hand, rather than being surprised once they open Alex up. Hang in there! I can’t even begin to imagine how many prayers are being said for your family. We will keep Ryleigh in our thoughts as well.

We are thinking and praying for your family and Alex. I don't know if this will make you feel better but last week our cardiologist told us that it is common during the Glenn to do minor repairs such as fixing the arch, aorta, valves and holes so that they don't have to do more than 3 surgeries. He said they want to do as much as possible to repair the heart sooner rather than later. With that being said, he said it is still usually easier on them than the Norwood because they are stronger and the aorta repair isn't as drastic. I know our son will also need work on his aorta and some valves during the Glenn and they won't fix his AV canal since separating the ventricles doesn't matter. I was under the impression that most kids don't just go in for the Glenn without needing other things repaired and the prognosis is still pretty good. I don't know if that makes you any calmer, but I do know that the Lords angels will be with the surgeons and Alex tomorrow. The Lord is in the details. All our love.

Brinley's was much more then the bi-direct glenn as well, it is a huge surgery but much needed, as you know the road will have a few bumps along the way, and we'll be here for every one of them should you ever need us. Alex has gained a ton of weight and is in the best position for this surgery, you have done an amazing job in caring for him and bring him to this point...heavenly father knows Alex well and will have his hand in every move that is made throughout this operation and recovery. You guys are loved by everyone!!!

Prayers,
Mike, Rebecca & Brinley Patton

Homers,
Your family continues to be in our thoughts and prayers that all will go well with Alex's surgery. He has made great strides just to be able to have this surgery and so that already shows how tough this little guy is.
Hugs,
Scott & Carolyn Quigley
